Like much of the wildlife he photographs, Steve Bloom is a rare species. Born in South Africa, Steve moved to England in 1977 where he established a photographic effects company. During the '90s, he swapped his career for the precarious life of freelance wildlife photographer. Untamed: Animals in the Wild
Untamed: Animals in the Wild (Hardcover)

For more than ten years, wildlife photographer Steve Bloom traveled all over the world, roaming through the jungles of Borneo, the African savannahs, and the frozen banks of Antarctica to assemble this dazzling collection of photographs of animals in their natural environments.

Children will experience animals up-close; the serene gaze of a gorilla relaxing in the trees; a shark jumping in midair to catch its prey; a Siberian tiger traipsing through the snow in search of food; and penguins congregating on an ice floe. Bloom's anthropomorphic approach reveals rage, tenderness, and even humor in his subjects, capturing those fleeting moments when the gap between animal and human seems to disappear altogether.

Spirit of the Wild
At first fired by curiosity, Steve Bloom's photographic explorations of the natural world were soon imbued with a fierce urgency as the full force of man's destruction of the environment and its creatures was revealed to him. His goal has been to search for the spirit of the world's wildlife, from the tiger's eyes gleaming brightly in the jungles of India to polar bear cubs seeing the world for the first time to the few mountain gorillas left in Africa. The result embodies nature's choreography, an intimate exploration that reveals not only the animals but much that is new about ourselves.
